Man Wanted for $100K Brooklyn and Queens Business Burglary Spree

The New York Police Department (NYPD) has launched a public appeal to help identify a man suspected of orchestrating a highly lucrative burglary spree targeting commercial establishments across Brooklyn and Queens. According to authorities, the incidents occurred over a one-week period between May 24 and May 30.

Smashed Glass and Stolen Safes

Police reports indicate that the suspect committed at least three separate burglaries. The majority of these crimes took place in the Cypress Hills neighborhood of Brooklyn, with one additional break-in occurring in Woodhaven, Queens. In every instance, the suspect forced his way into the targeted businesses by smashing a glass door or a window to gain entry.

The financial impact on the local businesses has been severe. In two of the break-ins, the suspect managed to steal a combined total of $2,900 from cash registers and drawers. However, the most significant theft occurred during a third incident, where the burglar successfully made off with an entire safe containing an estimated $100,000 in cash. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during any of the incidents.

Police Seek Public Assistance

The NYPD is actively investigating the spree and is urging anyone with information to come forward. Tips can be submitted anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), visiting their website, or using the NYPD Crime Stoppers mobile app. Spanish-speaking callers can dial 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).

Prevention: Securing Commercial Premises

This series of break-ins underscores the vulnerability of businesses to smash-and-grab tactics. Business owners can take several steps to enhance security:

  • Reinforce Glass Entries: Install shatter-resistant security film or roll-down metal gates over glass doors and windows to deter forced entry.
  • Secure Safes Properly: Ensure that all safes are heavily bolted to the floor or structural walls, making them nearly impossible to remove quickly.
  • Limit Cash on Hand: Deposit large sums of cash regularly and leave cash registers open and visibly empty overnight to prevent unnecessary damage to the machines.
  • Upgrade Alarm Systems: Use glass-break sensors and high-definition surveillance cameras that provide clear images even in low-light conditions.
