CMPD Investigating Disturbing North Charlotte Home Invasion and Rape of 86-Year-Old Woman

CHARLOTTE, NC — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is asking for the public's assistance as they investigate a shocking home invasion and sexual assault of an 86-year-old woman in North Charlotte. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting a heightened police presence in the area.

The assault took place on Saturday evening, February 24, 2024, in the 4400 block of Hucks Road, situated in a quiet residential neighborhood. According to police, an unknown male suspect forced his way into the victim's residence at approximately 7:30 p.m. Once inside, the intruder physically attacked and sexually assaulted the elderly homeowner, who was alone in the residence at the time.

The suspect fled the scene on foot before police arrived. First responders arrived shortly after a call was placed, and the victim was transported to a local hospital. She was treated for non-life-threatening physical injuries and is receiving support from specialized victim advocates. Police confirmed that the victim and the suspect did not know each other.

CMPD’s Sexual Assault Unit has taken lead on the case. Detectives have described the suspect as a male in his mid-to-late 20s. Forensic teams spent several hours gathering physical evidence at the scene, and detectives are canvassing the neighborhood for any home security camera footage that may have captured the suspect entering or exiting the property.

"This is an incredibly disturbing and heinous crime against one of our most vulnerable community members," a CMPD spokesperson said during a press briefing. "We are committing every resource to identify and apprehend this suspect."
