Suspect Arrested After Ramming Car Into Diamonds Direct Store in SouthPark

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A dramatic smash-and-grab attempt at a high-end jewelry store in SouthPark ended with a suspect behind bars. According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the individual rammed a vehicle directly into the storefront of Diamonds Direct on February 6, 2025.

Witnesses and responding officers reported extensive damage to the glass facade and structural entrance of the building. The suspect, characterized by investigators as a determined 'jewel hunter,' sought to rapidly breach the store's security and loot display cases. However, the store's reinforced security measures and the swift response of local patrol units thwarted the heist before the suspect could escape with the merchandise.

The suspect was apprehended at the scene and faces multiple felony charges, including commercial burglary, felony malicious damage to property, and grand larceny. Diamonds Direct, a prominent retailer in the SouthPark area, was temporarily closed to evaluate structural damage and secure the premises, though management expressed relief that no staff members or bystanders were harmed during the chaotic incident.
