Charlotte Man Aleksandros Soutzos Faces Attempted Murder and Arson Charges After Violent NoDa Attack
CHARLOTTE, NC โ A Charlotte man is facing nearly two dozen charges, including attempted murder and first-degree arson, following a horrific sequence of events inside a home in the NoDa neighborhood.
The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Aleksandros Soutzos, was arrested after Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded to a residential structure fire on Herrin Avenue. According to police records, Soutzos forced his way into the home and launched a violent assault on the occupants.
Investigators allege that Soutzos attacked a male resident multiple times using a wooden table leg and a stolen pocketknife. He also allegedly struck his girlfriend in the head with a frying pan. In a shocking escalation, Soutzos is accused of pouring gasoline on the male victim and setting the house on fire in an attempt to burn him alive. Fortunately, the victims managed to escape the burning building and seek medical attention.
The incident marks a tragic escalation of violence, as records show Soutzos had been arrested just weeks prior on March 22, 2026, for a domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend at the same address. Soutzos now faces serious charges including attempted first-degree murder, first-degree arson, first-degree burglary, and kidnapping, and is being held in Mecklenburg County jail.
Local authorities emphasize that domestic violence and violent burglaries are top priorities for law enforcement. CMPD encourages anyone experiencing domestic abuse to reach out to the National Domestic Violence Hotline or local crisis centers for immediate support.
