West Charlotte Man Robbed of $6,500 After Winning Big at Casino
CHARLOTTE, NC โ What was meant to be a celebratory evening turned into a crime scene after a man was ambushed and robbed of $6,500 in casino winnings at a West Charlotte apartment complex. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has filed charges and is actively searching for the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Savon Poe.
The incident took place on the afternoon of Monday, May 4, 2026. According to investigators, the victim had recently returned from a casino with a substantial cash payout. As he arrived at his apartment complex located just off the busy Wilkinson Boulevard corridor, he was confronted by an armed assailant who demanded the envelope of cash. Fearing for his safety, the victim handed over the money, and the suspect fled the area immediately.
CMPD detectives believe the robbery was not a random act of violence. Instead, evidence suggests the suspect may have watched the victim at the gaming facility, noted the large win, and followed him back to his West Charlotte residence. "This is a classic 'follow-home' robbery, which is highly dangerous and predatory," a police spokesperson commented. "We urge casino patrons to remain highly vigilant of their surroundings, particularly when transporting large sums of currency."
Following an intensive investigation, CMPD detectives identified Savon Poe, 25, as the primary suspect in the heist. Warrants have been issued for his arrest, including charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon. Law enforcement officers are asking anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity along Wilkinson Boulevard or near the casino on May 4, or who has information on Poe's current location, to contact Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Callers can remain anonymous and may receive a financial reward for tips that lead to a successful arrest.
