CMPD Releases Surveillance Video of Charlotte Car Theft and ATM Break-In Attempt
CHARLOTTE, NC โ The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has released security surveillance footage documenting two separate recent property crimes: a vehicle theft and an attempted ATM break-in, both occurring in the Charlotte area.
According to police, the first video shows suspects targeting a parked vehicle, successfully bypassing its security system, and stealing it within minutes. The second incident, which occurred separately but around the same period, shows individuals attempting to break into a commercial ATM using specialized tools. Though the suspects were unable to breach the vault, the machine sustained significant damage before the perpetrators fled the scene.
Detectives hope that releasing the high-quality surveillance clips will lead to identifications. Police are investigating if the two crimes are linked, as property theft rings often target both vehicles and cash machines in coordinated operations.
CMPD continues to remind business owners and residents to verify that security cameras are clean, operational, and recording at high resolutions. Business owners are also urged to ensure their outdoor lighting is fully functional to deter prospective vandals and thieves.
Anyone who recognizes the individuals or vehicles in the released footage is asked to contact Charlotte Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. All tipsters remain anonymous, and cash rewards are available for information leading to arrests.
