Security Footage Released After 73-Year-Old Man Robbed at Gunpoint at South Charlotte ATM

CHARLOTTE, NC — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) has released surveillance video and is asking for the public's help to identify a suspect who robbed a 73-year-old man at gunpoint near an ATM in South Charlotte.

According to police reports, the targeted attack took place late in April, leaving the elderly victim shaken but physically unharmed. The suspect approached the victim at the ATM, brandished a firearm, and demanded cash. After securing the money, the suspect fled the scene on a scooter, as captured in the newly released security footage.

Detectives hope that the distinctive appearance of the suspect or the scooter in the surveillance video will prompt someone in the community to come forward with information. 'Any detail, no matter how small, could be the key to identifying this individual and preventing further incidents,' a CMPD spokesperson stated.

As armed robberies near ATMs remain a safety concern, local authorities are reminding residents to stay vigilant when conducting financial transactions. CMPD recommends using ATMs located in well-lit, highly populated areas, being aware of one's surroundings, and avoiding transactions late at night when possible.
