Laramie County Man Charged Following $600 Tool Theft from Murdoch's in Cheyenne

CHEYENNE, Wyoming โ€” A Cheyenne man is facing felony charges after allegedly shoplifting high-value power tools from Murdoch's Ranch & Home Supply on East Lincolnway. The incident, which took place in early September 2025, involved the theft of over $600 in merchandise, crossing the threshold for felony larceny under Wyoming state law.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, store loss prevention personnel at Murdoch's observed a male suspect acting suspiciously in the hardware aisle. The suspect allegedly selected several premium power tools, concealed them or bypassed the point of sale without attempting to pay, and exited the store into the parking lot.

Employees immediately alerted the Cheyenne Police Department and provided a detailed description of the suspect and his getaway vehicle. Officers patrolling the area spotted the vehicle a short distance away and conducted a traffic stop. During the stop, officers recovered the stolen tools, valued at approximately $600, still in their original retail packaging.

The suspect was arrested on the scene and transported to the Laramie County Jail. Under Wyoming law, grand larceny charges can be filed for thefts exceeding $1,000, but repeated offenses or retail theft under specific criteria can escalate the charges. The suspect made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court, where his bond was set.
