Suspects Ram Vehicle Through Chicago GameStop Storefront in Brazen Electronics Heist

CHICAGO, IL — Police are investigating a commercial break-in after thieves used a vehicle to ram through the storefront of a GameStop on Chicago's South Side, making off with an undetermined amount of gaming consoles and electronic merchandise early Tuesday morning.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the incident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on August 12, 2025. Officers responded to a commercial burglar alarm at the retail location and arrived to find significant structural damage to the front of the building. The glass entrance and metal security gates had been completely compromised by the force of the impact.

A Pattern of Commercial 'Ram-Raids'

Preliminary reports indicate that a group of suspects deliberately backed a vehicle—described by witnesses as a dark-colored SUV—through the front glass doors of the store. Once inside, multiple individuals wearing hooded sweatshirts and masks quickly breached the sales floor, targeting locked display cases containing high-value items, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch consoles, along with several virtual reality headsets.

The entire heist took less than three minutes before the suspects fled the scene in a second getaway vehicle, leaving the ramming vehicle behind. CPD Area Detectives are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the store and surrounding businesses in an effort to identify the suspects and trace the license plates of the vehicles involved.

No injuries were reported during the incident, as the store was closed at the time of the break-in. Representatives for GameStop have not yet released an official estimate regarding the total value of the stolen merchandise or the cost of the structural repairs needed for the storefront.
