Police Investigate West Side Smash-and-Grab Burglary Caught on Surveillance Camera

CHICAGO, IL — The Chicago Police Department is seeking the public's help in identifying suspects involved in a destructive smash-and-grab burglary on the city's West Side, which was captured in detail on security cameras.

The burglary occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning. Surveillance footage obtained by investigators shows a vehicle reversing at high speed into the storefront, obliterating the glass doors and structural framing. Within seconds of the breach, multiple masked individuals emerge from the vehicle and rush into the business.

The perpetrators are seen ransacking the property, grabbing merchandise, and loading it into the getaway vehicle before fleeing the scene prior to police arrival. CPD officers responded shortly after receiving an automated alarm signal, securing the area and documenting the extensive structural damage.

Detectives are analyzing the video footage to identify the license plate of the vehicle used in the crash, as well as any distinguishing features of the suspects. Business owners in the area have expressed frustration and called for increased police patrols to deter future retail crimes.
