Burglary Spree Hits Chicago: ATMs Stolen in Ukrainian Village, Dispensary Targeted in South Loop
CHICAGO, IL — Chicago police are investigating a widespread commercial burglary spree that occurred on Monday, May 11, 2026, targeting multiple businesses across the city. The coordinated series of break-ins involved successful ATM thefts, a failed heist, and a break-in at a cannabis dispensary, highlighting a challenging night for local law enforcement.
In Ukrainian Village, burglars targeted the Beetle Bar and Grill. The suspects smashed the front windows of the popular neighborhood establishment, entered the premises, and forcibly removed the ATM. A short distance away in the same Ukrainian Village neighborhood, another bar fell victim to an identical scheme, with thieves successfully stealing its ATM as well.
Meanwhile, in the South Loop, police responded to a reported smash-and-grab at the Grasshopper Club dispensary. The suspects attempted to breach the high-security establishment, causing visible damage to the exterior before fleeing the scene. In a separate incident on the city’s North Side, another set of would-be burglars attempted to steal an ATM but failed, ultimately leaving empty-handed after their efforts were thwarted by security alarms.
The Chicago Police Department has not confirmed whether all these incidents are connected to the same crew. However, the identical tactics—specifically targeting ATMs and using high-velocity smash-and-grab entry—suggest a highly organized operation. Business owners are being urged to secure their cash machines and review their surveillance systems. Detectives are active across multiple districts, analyzing video evidence and processing the scenes for DNA and fingerprints.
