Vehicle Rammed Into Southwest Side Pawn Shop in Audacious Overnight Crash-and-Grab
CHICAGO, IL โ A Southwest Side pawn shop was the target of a destructive crash-and-grab burglary early Thursday morning, leaving the building's facade heavily damaged after thieves used a vehicle to smash their way inside.
The incident took place in the 4500 block of South Cicero Avenue at the Cash America Jewelry and Loan pawn shop. According to the Chicago Police Department and local news reports, the suspects rammed a vehicle directly into the front of the building during the overnight hours of August 8, 2024. The impact shattered the store's security gates and glass entrance, allowing the thieves temporary access to the showroom.
Witnesses and surveillance footage showed extensive structural damage to the storefront, with brickwork and metal framing buckled from the collision. Police arrived shortly after the alarm was triggered, but the suspects had already fled the scene. Authorities are working with the shop's management to determine what items and jewelry were stolen during the heist.
This incident is part of a growing trend of vehicle-ramming commercial burglaries in the Chicago area. Area detectives are examining surveillance footage from both the pawn shop and nearby traffic cameras in an effort to locate the getaway and ramming vehicles. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
