16-Year-Old Charged in River North and Armed Robbery Crime Spree
CHICAGO, IL — A 16-year-old male has been arrested and charged in connection with a series of armed robberies and business burglaries across Chicago, notably including a break-in at the popular Griddle 24 diner in River North.
According to police, the juvenile is facing multiple felony counts. Investigators stated that the suspect was identified as part of a crew targeting retail businesses and food establishments in the overnight hours. During the break-in at Griddle 24, the suspects forced entry, stole cash registers, and damaged property before fleeing the scene.
The arrest comes amid heightened concern from River North business owners and residents regarding rising commercial crime. The Chicago Police Department's Area Three detectives are leading the ongoing investigation to determine if the teenager is linked to other unsolved business burglaries in the area.
