Jeep Used to Crash-and-Grab ATM from West Englewood Business

CHICAGO (ABC7) — Chicago Police are investigating a bold early morning burglary in West Englewood, where a vehicle was used to smash through a local business to steal an automated teller machine (ATM).

The incident occurred on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at approximately 4:49 a.m. according to authorities. Police reports indicate that a group of unidentified individuals driving a dark-colored Jeep targeted a business located in the 7000 block of South Ashland Avenue. The suspects rammed the SUV directly through the storefront, shattering glass and structural columns to gain access to the interior.

Shattered Entrance, Abandoned SUV

Once inside, the suspects successfully dislodged the ATM and loaded it into a second vehicle waiting nearby. They fled the scene immediately in that secondary getaway car, abandoning the damaged dark Jeep on site. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the business's facade heavily compromised and the Jeep still sitting in the wreckage.

No injuries were reported during the crash or subsequent theft, as the business was closed to customers at the time. Area One detectives are currently reviewing surveillance footage from nearby traffic cameras and neighboring storefronts to trace the fleeing vehicle and identify those responsible.

Just hours earlier in the same morning, a similar crash-and-grab ATM theft was executed on Kimball Avenue in the Avondale neighborhood, leading detectives to investigate potential links between the two crews.
