North Side Businesses Targeted in Overnight Smash-and-Grab Spree

CHICAGO, IL โ€” A wave of smash-and-grab burglaries targeted multiple businesses on Chicago's North Side early Thursday morning, leaving storefronts damaged and business owners demanding action. Among the popular establishments hit during the spree were El Barco, a well-known seafood restaurant, and Tin Lizzie, a neighborhood sports bar.

According to initial police reports, the incidents occurred in the early hours of May 7, 2026. In each instance, the suspects utilized forced entry, shattering front glass doors or windows to gain quick access to the interiors. Once inside, they targeted cash registers and valuable electronics before fleeing the scene in waiting vehicles.

Local business owners expressed frustration over the rising tide of commercial burglaries. "It takes only seconds for these thieves to cause thousands of dollars in damage, not to mention what they steal," said one area resident. Chicago Police are reviewing area surveillance footage to identify the suspects and determine if the break-ins are linked to a single organized crew.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made. Anyone with information regarding these break-ins is urged to contact Chicago Police Area Detectives.
