South Loop Strip Mall Targeted in Early Morning Smash-and-Grab Burglary Spree

CHICAGO, IL — A South Loop strip mall became the scene of a rapid smash-and-grab crime spree early Saturday morning, leaving business owners facing costly repairs and security concerns. The Chicago Police Department has launched an investigation into the serial break-ins that damaged three local establishments.

According to Chicago Police, the incident occurred during the early morning hours of Saturday, March 8, 2025. The suspect targeted a strip mall located near the busy intersection of South Clark Street and South Archer Avenue. In a swift sequence of events, the burglar shattered the front glass windows of three separate businesses to gain entry.

Despite breaking into all three storefronts, the perpetrator was only successful in stealing cash from one location. Investigators confirmed that the burglar targeted a cash register at one of the businesses, stealing an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene. It remains unclear what, if anything, was taken from the other two establishments, which suffered extensive property damage from the forced entry.

Area detectives are actively reviewing surveillance footage from the strip mall and surrounding intersections to identify the suspect.
