CPD Investigates Dual Smoke Shop Burglaries in Uptown and Jefferson Park

CHICAGO — Chicago Police are investigating a pair of early-morning burglaries targeting local smoke shops in the city's Uptown and Jefferson Park neighborhoods, authorities confirmed. The incidents, which occurred within hours of each other on Thursday, September 4, 2025, have raised concerns among local business owners about a potential pattern targeting specialty retail shops.

According to the Chicago Police Department (CPD), the first incident was reported in the Uptown neighborhood on the city's North Side. Officers responded to a smoke shop located along the busy commercial corridor of Sheridan Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered signs of forced entry. The perpetrators had broken into the store, ransacked the premises, and fled with an undisclosed amount of merchandise and cash.

Shortly thereafter, a second burglary was reported on the Northwest Side in the Jefferson Park neighborhood. A smoke shop situated on Foster Avenue was targeted in a similar fashion. Investigators are working to determine if the two break-ins are connected, looking at surveillance footage and vehicle descriptions from both areas.

No injuries were reported in either incident. As of Thursday afternoon, police have not released descriptions of any suspects or vehicles involved. Business owners in both Uptown and Jefferson Park are urged to review security camera footage and report any suspicious activity to the CPD Area Detectives. The investigation remains ongoing.
