Chicago Police Investigate Crash-and-Grab at Third BP Gas Station

CHICAGO, IL — The Chicago Police Department is investigating a pattern of commercial burglaries after a BP gas station was hit by a crash-and-grab incident. This marks the third BP location in the city to be targeted by thieves using vehicles to breach storefront structures and steal automated teller machines.

In the latest incident, suspects drove a vehicle directly into the glass storefront of the gas station, causing extensive structural damage. The perpetrators then quickly wrapped chains or straps around the ATM, pulling it free from the floor. The crew successfully loaded the machine into a secondary getaway vehicle before abandoning the ramming car or speeding away from the scene.

Police are reviewing security camera footage from the site and analyzing the debris left behind. Authorities believe an organized crew may be behind the series of gas station burglaries and are working to identify suspect vehicles and establish connections between the three incidents.
