Smash-and-Grab Burglars Strike Dunning Sports Card and Comic Store

CHICAGO, IL — A popular sports card and comic book store in Chicago's Dunning neighborhood was targeted in a destructive smash-and-grab burglary early Monday morning, April 20, 2026. The incident has left the local business community on edge as police seek the perpetrators.

Security footage shows the suspects shattering the store's glass storefront using a heavy tool to gain rapid entry. Once inside, the burglars moved quickly through the showroom, smashing display cases to grab collectible boxes, rare comic books, and high-end trading cards. The entire heist lasted less than three minutes before the suspects fled in a waiting vehicle.

The store's owner expressed frustration and heartbreak over the damage and stolen inventory, much of which is difficult to replace due to its collectible nature. "They knew what they were doing and what they wanted," the owner remarked, pointing to the specific cases targeted by the thieves.

Chicago police officers responded to the scene following a burglar alarm activation. Officers canvassed the area and collected physical evidence and digital surveillance footage.
