Parolee Arrested with Machine Gun During Lincoln Park Liquor Store Burglary Attempt
CHICAGO โ A parolee is back behind bars after prosecutors say he was caught attempting to burglarize a Lincoln Park liquor store while armed with a fully automatic machine gun.
The incident occurred in the affluent North Side neighborhood of Lincoln Park. According to prosecutors, police officers responded to an active break-in at a local liquor establishment. Upon arrival, officers intercepted the suspect, identified as a parolee with a prior criminal history, who was actively attempting to gain entry into the commercial business.
Suspect Armed with Fully Automatic Weapon
During the arrest, officers recovered a firearm that had been illegally modified. Prosecutors revealed that the weapon was equipped with an automatic conversion device (commonly known as a "switch" or "auto-sear"), transforming the handgun into a fully operational machine gun. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.
Charging documents details indicate that the suspect was on active parole at the time of his arrest. He now faces multiple felony charges, including attempted burglary, unlawful use of a weapon (UUW) by a felon, and possession of a machine gun.
Community Safety Impact
The presence of high-powered, modified firearms in retail theft attempts has become a growing concern for the Chicago Police Department and local business chambers. Lincoln Park residents and merchants have voiced rising concerns over armed property crimes in the area. A judge ordered the suspect detained pending trial, citing the danger posed to the community.
