Tragedy in Chicago: Robbery Suspect Shoots Two Police Officers at Swedish Hospital, Killing One

CHICAGO, IL — A tense situation ended in tragedy on Saturday, April 25, 2026, when a robbery suspect shot two Chicago police officers inside Swedish Hospital on the city's North Side. One of the wounded officers has succumbed to their injuries, while the second remains hospitalized.

The incident began when police responded to reports of a robbery in progress. Officers tracked the suspect to Swedish Hospital, located in the Lincoln Square neighborhood. When officers attempted to apprehend the suspect inside the facility, a struggle ensued, and the suspect drew a firearm, firing multiple rounds at the responding officers.

Both officers were critically injured in the exchange. They were treated immediately by hospital staff before one officer was pronounced dead. The suspect was taken into custody shortly after the shooting, and police recovered a weapon at the scene. The identity of the fallen officer has not been released pending family notification.
