Burglars Smash Windows and Steal ATMs from Rogers Park and Logan Square Businesses

CHICAGO, IL — Chicago police are investigating two early-morning commercial burglaries where thieves shattered front glass windows and carried away automated teller machines (ATMs) from businesses in the Rogers Park and Logan Square neighborhoods. Both incidents occurred within an hour of each other, suggesting a coordinated effort.

Timeline of the Smash-and-Grab Thefts

According to police reports, the burglary crew struck two separate locations in the early hours of Monday, October 27, 2025:

  1. Rogers Park (2:58 AM): Police responded to an alarm at Chicagoโ€™s Hookah & CBD, located in the 1400 block of West Devon Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered the store's front glass window completely shattered and the interior ATM missing.
  2. Logan Square (3:45 AM): Less than an hour later, officers were dispatched to Rosatiโ€™s Pizza in the 2218 block of North California Avenue. Police found the pizza parlor's front glass window smashed and confirmed that its ATM had been dragged out and stolen.

Suspects and Getaway Vehicle

Witnesses at both locations reported seeing a crew of approximately five masked individuals executing the break-ins. The burglars utilized heavy tools to break the glass storefronts and quickly load the heavy ATM machines into their getaway vehicle, described as a black sport-utility vehicle (SUV). The suspects then sped away from the scenes before patrol officers could arrive.

Belmont and Area Three detectives are currently investigating the burglaries. While police have not officially declared the two incidents to be connected, the similar modus operandi, timing, and suspect descriptions have led investigators to look into a single active burglary ring.

Business owners in both areas are being advised to take extra precautions, such as installing security gates or bolting down ATM machines to the floor, to deter similar smash-and-grab style burglaries.

Anyone with surveillance video or information regarding these incidents is urged to contact Chicago Police detectives or submit an anonymous tip online at CPDTIP.com.
