Unique Custom Bicycle Helps Chico Police Track Down Burglary Suspect

CHICO, California — A burglary investigation in Chico has led to the arrest of a suspect, thanks to the recovery of a highly recognizable piece of stolen property. According to the Chico Police Department, a distinctive custom-made bicycle stolen during a recent break-in helped officers identify and apprehend the suspect.

The incident began when a homeowner reported a residential burglary. Among the items stolen was a custom bicycle with unique features, making it easily distinguishable. A short time later, officers spotted an individual riding a bicycle matching the detailed description of the stolen property. Upon stopping the rider, police confirmed the custom bike belonged to the burglary victim.

The rider was arrested on suspicion of burglary and possession of stolen property. Authorities noted that unique or customized items are often much harder for criminals to sell or hide, which frequently aids in rapid recovery. Chico Police are reminding residents to photograph and record serial numbers for high-value possessions to assist in recovery efforts if a crime occurs.
