Thieves Steal Nearly $50K in Display Shoes from Over-the-Rhine Boutique

CINCINNATI, Ohio — Police are investigating a highly unusual theft at Soul Bros 513, a boutique shoe store located in the historic Over-the-Rhine (OTR) neighborhood, where suspects made off with nearly $50,000 worth of merchandise. Interestingly, the stolen items consisted almost entirely of single display shoes.

The break-in occurred late in the evening on October 14, 2024. According to the store manager, the suspects bypassed the locked boxes containing pairs of shoes and instead snatched the individual shoes that were out on display. This method has left the store owners puzzled, as single shoes are notoriously difficult to resell in the secondary market without their matches.

“They grabbed the display shoes off the shelves, but didn't touch the actual boxed pairs or the high-end luxury stock we keep secured,” the store manager explained. The financial impact is substantial, totaling close to $50,000 in retail value, but the commercial logic behind the theft remains a mystery.

Cincinnati Police have released surveillance images of the suspects and are calling on the public to help identify them. Investigators are also keeping an eye on online marketplace platforms to see if any mismatched high-end sneakers are offered for sale.
