Cincinnati Man Accused of Hiding in Store on Christmas to Steal Merchandise
CINCINNATI, Ohio — A local man is facing multiple charges after police say he hid inside a retail store on Christmas Day, waiting for the business to close before attempting to steal merchandise.
According to court documents and police reports, the incident occurred on the evening of December 25, 2023. The suspect allegedly entered the store during normal operating hours but managed to evade employees as they prepared to lock up for the holiday. Police report that he remained concealed in an employee-only area or restroom until the building was completely empty and locked.
Once the store was closed, the suspect emerged from hiding and began collecting various retail items, intending to steal them. However, his presence triggered the store's security alarm system, notifying local law enforcement immediately. Cincinnati Police officers responded to the scene, surrounded the building, and subsequently apprehended the suspect inside the premises without further incident. The suspect was found in possession of several items that had been removed from display shelves.
The individual has been charged with breaking and entering, along with theft. Authorities warn that retail establishments remain high-priority targets during the holidays, and security measures, including motion sensors and silent alarms, are highly active even when stores are closed for festive occasions. The suspect is currently held in the Hamilton County Justice Center awaiting his preliminary hearing.
