Vehicle Ram-Raids Target Multiple Colorado Springs Businesses
Colorado Springs businesses are facing a dangerous trend of vehicle-assisted burglaries, commonly known as ram-raids. In these incidents, criminals utilize stolen cars as heavy instruments to break through storefronts, causing severe structural damage before quickly stealing merchandise and escaping.
Initial Ram-Raiding Incident (March 2024)
The pattern of these vehicle-assisted break-ins became apparent on March 26, 2024. In that incident, thieves drove a vehicle directly through the front entrance of a Colorado Springs commercial business. Once the barrier was breached, the suspects entered the premises and stole an undisclosed amount of merchandise. The property damage left behind was substantial, requiring temporary structural reinforcement and business closures for repairs.
Second Incident Involving Stolen Car (July 2025)
A highly similar incident occurred over a year later on July 1, 2025. In this case, another stolen car was used to plow directly into a local business. The collision shattered glass, destroyed security gates, and compromised the building's facade. Police suspect that the vehicle was stolen shortly before the crime specifically to be used as a battering ram, a common tactic designed to avoid leaving a traceable vehicle at the scene.
Impact on Local Business Community
These destructive burglaries present a major challenge for local business owners, who must deal with both the loss of inventory and the high cost of rebuilding storefronts. Security experts recommend that businesses vulnerable to ram-raids install heavy-duty bollards in front of their entrances to physically block vehicles from reaching the glass and doors.
The Colorado Springs Police Department is actively searching for the suspects involved in these cases and is investigating whether a single organized group is responsible for both heists.
