Colorado Man Charged in $25,000 Columbia ATM Theft
COLUMBIA, Mo. — A Colorado man is facing felony charges in Missouri after local authorities accused him of stealing approximately $25,000 from an automated teller machine (ATM) in Columbia.
According to the Columbia Police Department, officers responded to a report of a security breach and theft at a bank ATM location. A subsequent investigation led detectives to identify a male suspect from Colorado who had allegedly compromised the machine's security systems to gain access to the cash vault inside.
Investigators used surveillance footage, financial transaction records, and vehicle tracking to trace the suspect's movements following the theft. He was subsequently located and taken into custody by law enforcement officers. Authorities confirmed that a significant portion of the stolen funds has not yet been recovered, and they are continuing to investigate whether the suspect had any local accomplices or was part of a larger, multi-state ATM theft ring.
The suspect has been booked into the local detention facility on charges of grand larceny and property damage. He is awaiting his initial court appearance, where a judge will set bail and outline the legal proceedings.
