Man Slashed in Face While Intervening in South Columbus Garage Car Break-In; Suspect Flees
COLUMBUS, Ohio โ A confrontation in a South Columbus residential garage turned violent on Thursday afternoon when a local man was slashed in the face while attempting to stop an active vehicle break-in. The incident, which highlights growing safety concerns regarding auto theft and prowling in the area, occurred in a South Columbus residential neighborhood.
According to preliminary details released by the Columbus Division of Police, the victim observed an unidentified individual tampering with a parked vehicle inside his garage at approximately 3:00 PM on April 30, 2026. Hoping to prevent the theft, the victim approached the garage to confront the intruder. The situation quickly escalated into a physical struggle as the suspect attempted to escape.
During the altercation, the suspect produced an edged weapon, striking the victim in the face and causing a significant laceration. The suspect then fled the property on foot in an unknown direction. Medics responded promptly to the scene and transported the injured man to a nearby hospital for treatment. Investigators confirmed that while the facial wound required stitches, his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
