Massive 60-Ton Construction Crane Valued at $500,000 Stolen from Columbus Construction Site

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Local authorities are investigating an unusual and high-value theft after a massive 60-ton construction crane was reported stolen from a job site in Columbus. The industrial vehicle, valued at approximately $500,000, disappeared from an active construction zone over the weekend, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

Given the size and weight of the crane, investigators believe the theft was a pre-planned operation requiring specialized knowledge to operate and transport such heavy machinery. The crane’s disappearance has caused delays in the construction project, in addition to the major financial loss for the construction firm.

Deputies are currently checking highway cameras and local business surveillance footage to trace the route taken by the stolen crane. Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed a large crane being moved or transported during the late-night or early-morning hours around March 30 or 31, 2025, to contact the Sheriff’s Office immediately.
