Deep Ellum Bakery Burglar Smashes Through Wall to Steal Safe and Bypass Alarm
A bakery in the popular and historic Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas was the target of a destructive and creative commercial burglary in early October 2025. The perpetrator managed to bypass the store's alarm systems by physically smashing a hole through the building's exterior wall to gain entry and steal the business safe.
A Destructive Method of Entry
Instead of attempting to pick locks or break through front glass windowsโwhich would have immediately triggered the security alarm systemโthe burglar targeted a vulnerable section of the exterior wall. Using heavy tools, the suspect created an opening large enough to crawl through. Once inside, the intruder bypassed main areas monitored by sensors and headed directly for the bakery's office, where the safe was located.
Bypassing the Security System
The owner of the bakery expressed shock at the lengths to which the burglar went to avoid detection. The safe, which contained daily cash reserves and essential documents, was ripped from its mountings and dragged out through the same hole in the wall. The incident has raised concerns among local business owners in Deep Ellum regarding the physical security of older brick-and-mortar buildings in the district.
Police Response
The Dallas Police Department is investigating the incident and looking at surveillance video from nearby establishments. Business owners are being advised to reinforce exterior walls and secure safes to concrete flooring to prevent similar smash-and-grab wall breaches.
