West Detroit Family Traumatized After Home Invader Holds Knife to 9-Year-Old Girl's Throat

DETROIT, Michigan — A West Detroit neighborhood is on high alert after a home invasion where a suspect brandished a knife against a young child. The family is speaking out to warn neighbors and call for increased police patrols in the area.

The terrifying incident occurred during the early hours of Monday, January 13, 2025, at a home near Hubble Street and Schoolcraft Avenue. According to police and victim statements, the intruder gained entry to the home by climbing onto a dumpster in the alley, which allowed him to reach and force open a second-story bathroom window.

Once inside, the suspect entered a bedroom where a 9-year-old girl was sleeping. The intruder held a knife to the child's throat and threatened her to keep quiet. Despite the warning, the child's screams alerted her mother, who was sleeping in a nearby room. The mother rushed to the bedroom and witnessed the suspect fleeing out the front door.

Community Rallies in Support of the Family

While the young girl did not suffer physical injuries, her family emphasizes that the emotional trauma has been severe. The community group New Era Detroit has partnered with the family, canvassing the neighborhood and distributing safety flyers to raise awareness and support local residents.

The Detroit Police Department is actively investigating the break-in. Residents with home surveillance systems in the Hubble and Schoolcraft area are asked to review their footage from the night of January 13 and report any suspicious activity to investigators.
