Cleveland Woman Sentenced in Federal Court for Elyria U.S. Bank Robbery

ELYRIA, Ohio โ€” A Cleveland woman has been sentenced to federal prison for her role in the armed robbery of a U.S. Bank branch in Elyria, federal court records show.

The robbery took place on December 16, 2023, when 31-year-old Tyaesha Hunter entered the U.S. Bank located on Midway Boulevard. Wearing a hood, surgical mask, glasses, and gloves to conceal her identity, Hunter approached a bank teller and presented a demanding note that read: "This is a robbery! I have a gun!" Fearing for their safety, the teller complied with the demands, and Hunter fled the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Locating the Suspect

Investigators utilized surveillance cameras and local license plate readers to identify the getaway vehicle, a gray 2015 Dodge Dart, which led them to a nearby inn and ultimately to Hunter's Cleveland residence. On December 21, 2023, police officers staked out her home and took her into custody without incident.

Guilty Plea and Sentencing

Hunter was prosecuted in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. In June 2024, she formally pleaded guilty to a single count of bank robbery. At her sentencing hearing in September 2024, a federal judge sentenced Hunter to 24 months in prison, followed by a period of supervised release.
