Erie Man Facing Federal Robbery Charges for Rite Aid Heist
ERIE, Pennsylvania โ An Erie man is facing federal robbery charges in connection with a theft at a westside pharmacy in early 2024. The prosecution has been moved to federal court under laws governing commercial robbery.
The Rite Aid Robbery
The robbery took place at a Rite Aid store on the west side of Erie. According to court documents, the suspect entered the retail pharmacy, approached the register, and demanded cash from store employees. The suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of money. Fortunately, no employees or customers were injured during the heist.
Federal Hobbs Act Prosecution
The case is being prosecuted federally under the Hobbs Act, which covers robberies affecting interstate commerce. Federal involvement typically brings more resources to the investigation and carries stiffer penalties upon conviction. The suspect faces up to 20 years in federal prison if found guilty of the charges.
