Deputies Search for Masked Duo Who Used Trash Can to Steal Loot from Fayetteville Food Store

FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina — The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office is requesting public assistance to identify two masked suspects involved in a bizarre and bold theft at a local food store in the Fayetteville area.

According to deputies, the incident occurred on April 8, 2026. Surveillance footage and witness statements indicate that two individuals, both wearing masks to conceal their identities, entered the commercial establishment. Rather than using shopping carts or baskets, the suspects brought a large garbage can into the store.

Once inside, the duo systematically filled the trash container with various stolen goods. After securing their illicit haul, the suspects wheeled the garbage can out of the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. They loaded the stolen loot into a waiting SUV and fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Law enforcement officials have released descriptions of the suspects' vehicle and are reviewing security footage from the store and surrounding businesses.
