Brazen Daytime Mob Heist: Thieves Ransack Kumar Jewelers in Fremont

FREMONT, CA — A violent and meticulously planned smash-and-grab robbery left an Indian-American family-owned business reeling on June 18, 2025. In a heist captured on surveillance video, a mob of roughly two dozen masked suspects ransacked Kumar Jewelers, escaping with merchandise valued at approximately $1.7 million (Rs 16–18 crore) in just 70 seconds.

The incident began in the afternoon when suspects drove a stolen vehicle directly through the front window of the store, shattering the storefront. Up to 20 individuals, clad in dark clothing and masks, flooded the showroom. Armed with hammers, heavy tools, and a firearm, they quickly forced the store's security guard to the ground and proceeded to systematically shatter glass display cases.

The thieves swept gold, diamonds, and high-end watches into duffel bags, clearing out an estimated 80% of the showroom inventory. The store owners and family members described the experience as deeply traumatic, noting that the speed and aggressiveness of the crew left them completely helpless.

Fremont police immediately responded and pursued one of the getaway vehicles, which eventually crashed. Four suspects were apprehended at the scene after a brief foot chase, and a portion of the stolen property was recovered. Law enforcement officials continue to seek the remaining suspects involved in this highly organized retail theft ring.
