Suspects Flee Following Botched ATM Theft at Radiant Credit Union in Gainesville
GAINESVILLE, FL โ Law enforcement authorities in Alachua County are actively searching for several individuals involved in a bold, yet failed, attempt to steal an automated teller machine (ATM) from a local credit union branch. The incident, which caused significant property damage, occurred at a Radiant Credit Union location in Gainesville.
According to police reports and local news sources, the suspects arrived at the financial institution in the early morning hours. Utilizing a stolen white Ford truck, the perpetrators attempted to yank the ATM from its concrete footings. However, the heist quickly fell apart when the suspects realized they could not successfully break open the cash vault or transport the heavily secured machine.
Realizing their efforts were futile and that law enforcement was likely en route, the suspects abandoned both the damaged ATM and the stolen truck at the scene before fleeing on foot. Officers arriving shortly after the incident discovered the vehicle still idling near the mangled teller machine. Crime scene technicians have processed the truck and the surrounding area for DNA and fingerprint evidence.
The Gainesville Police Department, alongside regional investigators, is reviewing surveillance footage from the credit union and neighboring businesses. The authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspects or suspicious activity in the area to contact local investigators or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
