Gainesville man charged with motorcycle theft and wearing a mask on someone else's property

GAINESVILLE, FL — A Gainesville man is facing multiple criminal charges, including grand theft of a motor vehicle and wearing a mask on private property, after being arrested by Alachua County sheriff's deputies during the night.

The arrest followed reports from vigilant neighborhood residents who noticed an individual behaving suspiciously on private residential property. According to the arrest affidavit, the suspect was wearing a mask to conceal his face while walking through yards. Upon arriving at the scene, responding deputies located the suspect in immediate possession of a motorcycle that had recently been reported stolen within the Gainesville area.

Under Florida law, wearing a mask while committing a crime or trespassing on private property can elevate charges due to the intent to conceal identity. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and booked into the Alachua County Jail.
