Burglary Suspect Shot by Homeowner During Break-In Attempt in Greenville County

GREENVILLE, South Carolina — A burglary suspect was hospitalized with gunshot wounds on Sunday after a homeowner opened fire during an attempted residential break-in in Greenville County, according to local sheriff's deputies.

Homeowner Confronts Intruder

Greenville County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home invasion and shooting call at a residential address. According to preliminary reports, the homeowner was inside the residence when they heard someone attempting to break in through a door. Upon confronting the suspect, who was actively trying to force entry, the homeowner fired a weapon in self-defense, striking the intruder.

Investigation Underway

The suspect fled the immediate scene but was located by deputies shortly thereafter. Emergency medical services transported the suspect to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Law enforcement confirmed that the homeowner was uninjured in the incident.

Investigators are currently conducting interviews and reviewing evidence to determine the exact circumstances of the break-in. At this time, no charges have been filed against the homeowner, as state law generally protects individuals defending their occupied residences.
