Former J.H. Rose High School Football Player Charged in Theft of Dozens of Helmets
GREENVILLE, NC โ Greenville police investigators have filed charges against a former J.H. Rose High School football player following a probe into the theft of dozens of varsity football helmets from the school's athletic facilities.
The investigation began after school administrators noticed a significant shortage in their athletic equipment inventory. Upon auditing the storage facilities, staff discovered that multiple protective helmets, valued at thousands of dollars in total, had been removed without authorization. The theft occurred in August 2024, right as the team was preparing for the upcoming season.
Through surveillance footage review, physical evidence, and interviews, school resource officers and Greenville Police Department detectives identified a former player as the primary suspect. Investigators believe the individual had familiarity with the school's layout and access points, which facilitated the unauthorized entry and removal of the gear.
The suspect faces charges of larceny and possession of stolen goods. Authorities have successfully recovered a portion of the stolen equipment, and efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining helmets before they can be sold or distributed. School officials expressed disappointment over the incident but thanked the police department for their swift resolution of the case.
