Hermosa Beach: Two Children Safe Following Terrifying Home Invasion

Home Invasion on Manhattan Avenue

A terrifying situation unfolded in Hermosa Beach, California, early Monday morning when a suspect broke into an occupied family home on Manhattan Avenue. The Hermosa Beach Police Department reported that they received frantic emergency calls at approximately 2:45 a.m. regarding a possible home invasion and an active burglary in progress. Upon their rapid arrival, the terrified adult victims met the responding officers outside the residence. The parents informed the police that they believed the suspect had illegally entered their home through a first-floor window and was actively ransacking the property. Most concerningly, their two young children, aged just 5 and 3, were still asleep in their bedrooms upstairs while the intruder was inside the house.

Suspect Apprehended by Multi-Agency Response

Recognizing the extreme danger to the children, the Hermosa Beach Police Department immediately requested urgent assistance from several neighboring law enforcement agencies. Officers from Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, El Segundo, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department quickly converged on the scene to establish a secure perimeter, while a police helicopter monitored the tense situation from above. Shortly after the perimeter was set, the suspect boldly opened the front door in an apparent attempt to flee. However, upon seeing the massive police presence, he immediately slammed the door shut and barricaded himself inside the home. The situation escalated rapidly as the suspect was then seen running upstairs, directly toward the children’s bedrooms. Without hesitation, officers forcefully breached the front door and rushed into the residence. They quickly located the suspect on the second floor and successfully took him into custody without further incident. To the immense relief of everyone involved, the two young children were found completely safe and remarkably still sound asleep in their room. HBPD Chief Landon Phillips later commended the officers' quick thinking and the seamless coordination with neighboring agencies that ensured a peaceful resolution with no reported injuries.
