ATM Damaged After Early Morning Theft Attempt at Chase Bank in Hesperia
HESPERIA, CA — Detectives are investigating a failed attempt to steal cash from an automated teller machine (ATM) at a Chase Bank branch in Hesperia early Monday morning.
According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to a commercial alarm at the Chase Bank located on Main Street. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that the bank's outdoor walk-up ATM had sustained major structural damage, with its exterior housing partially pried open.
Investigators believe the suspects attempted to use specialized tools or a vehicle to force open the vault containing the cash. Despite causing significant damage to the machine, the suspects were unable to breach the inner security vault and fled the scene empty-handed prior to the arrival of deputies.
Crime scene investigators processed the area for forensic evidence, and detectives are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the bank and neighboring businesses. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity near the bank during the early morning hours is asked to contact police.
