Arrest Made in Big #1 Motorsports Tool Heist

Following a month-long investigation, the Homewood Police Department has announced a significant arrest connected to a high-value commercial burglary. Justin Green, a 35-year-old resident of Birmingham, was taken into custody on June 24 and has been formally charged with first-degree theft of property.

The Motorsports Burglary

The charges against Green stem from an overnight break-in that occurred in mid-May. On the morning of May 17, Homewood police officers responded to a burglary report at Big #1 Motorsports, a local dealership and service center. According to the initial police report, a suspect had forcefully breached the business overnight.

Rather than targeting the vehicles, the intruder focused on the service department. Investigators determined the suspect systematically gathered and stole specialized automotive and motorcycle repair tools. The total value of the stolen equipment was estimated at several thousand dollars, representing a significant loss for the business's service operations.

Surveillance Leads to Arrest

The successful identification of the suspect hinged on comprehensive digital evidence. Detectives meticulously reviewed the facility's internal and external surveillance footage, which, combined with other physical evidence left at the scene, ultimately allowed them to identify Justin Green as the primary suspect. Following his arrest, Green was booked into the Jefferson County Jail, where his bond was set at $30,000.

Securing High-Value Tools in Commercial Shops

Automotive and motorsports repair shops are frequent targets for commercial burglars. While vehicles are difficult to steal and fence, high-end professional tools are highly portable, untraceable, and extremely valuable on the black market. • Lock the Toolboxes: Every technician must strictly lock their primary toolboxes at the end of every shift. Consider upgrading standard toolbox locks to heavy-duty, drill-resistant core locks.
• Interior Service Cages: For highly specialized, shop-owned diagnostic equipment and expensive specialty tools, construct a heavy-duty chain-link security cage within the service department. This interior room must be locked nightly with a commercial-grade padlock.
