Smash-and-Grab: Suspects Ram U-Haul into Houston Walgreens in Attempted ATM Theft
HOUSTON, Texas — Police are investigating a dramatic smash-and-grab attempt after suspects rammed a U-Haul truck through the front windows of a Walgreens pharmacy in southwest Houston early Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred at the Walgreens location situated on Westheimer Road. According to initial reports from the Houston Police Department, a group of suspects used a rented U-Haul truck as a battering ram to smash through the store's glass storefront, causing extensive structural damage.
Failed ATM Theft Attempt
Once inside, the suspects targeted the store's ATM machine, attempting to load it onto the vehicle or pull it free from its mountings. Despite causing severe damage to the building's facade and interior entry area, the suspects were ultimately unsuccessful in securing the cash machine. They fled the scene shortly before officers arrived, leaving behind a trail of shattered glass and structural debris.
Ongoing Police Investigation
Investigators are analyzing surveillance footage from the Walgreens and neighboring establishments on Westheimer Road. HPD is asking anyone with information regarding the U-Haul truck or the suspects involved to contact local authorities or Crime Stoppers.
