Burglars Use U-Haul to Smash Into North Houston Smoke Shop, Stealing ATM and Merchandise
HOUSTON, Texas — A commercial smoke shop in North Houston was ransacked by a group of burglars who utilized a U-Haul truck to smash through the storefront, making off with an ATM and thousands of dollars in merchandise.
Smash-and-Grab Commercial Burglary
The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning when the suspects backed a U-Haul truck directly through the front glass windows of the business. The impact caused extensive structural damage to the storefront. Once inside, the perpetrators quickly targeted the store's ATM, loading it into the vehicle along with approximately $7,500 worth of retail products before fleeing the scene.
Rising Concerns Over Vehicle-Assisted Break-Ins
Houston police are reviewing video surveillance from the shop and neighboring businesses to trace the escape route of the U-Haul. Using rental trucks for commercial burglaries has become a recurring tactic for thieves due to their size and power to breach security gates. The business owner is now facing significant repair costs in addition to the lost inventory and stolen cash.
