River Oaks Landmark 'Red Lion Pub' Burgled; Fired Former Employee Accused
HOUSTON, Texas โ The Red Lion Pub, a well-known English tavern in Houston's affluent River Oaks neighborhood, has been broken into, and police believe the crime may have been an inside job. Authorities have identified a recently terminated employee as the primary suspect in the burglary.
According to police reports, the break-in took place overnight when the pub was closed. Surveillance footage and physical evidence at the scene led detectives to focus their investigation on the former staff member, who was recently fired from the establishment.
A Neighborhood Staple Targeted
The Red Lion Pub has been a popular fixture in the River Oaks dining scene for years, famous for its traditional British fare and warm atmosphere. News of the break-in has concerned regular patrons and neighboring business owners.
"We take pride in serving our community, and it is highly disappointing when someone who was once part of the team breaks that trust," management expressed in a statement.
Investigation and Charges Pending
Investigators state that entry was forced through a back entrance, and the intruder took undisclosed items and cash before fleeing the scene. Due to the suspect's familiarity with the layout of the property, they were able to bypass certain security measures, which initially raised red flags for investigators.
The Houston Police Department has not yet announced a formal arrest but confirms they are actively pursuing the suspect on burglary charges. Business operations at the pub have resumed as normal while the legal process unfolds.
