HOUSTON, Texas — An elderly woman in her 70s lost her life following a violent shootout during a home invasion in northeast Houston on Tuesday, according to the Houston Police Department.

The incident occurred on January 27, 2026, in a residential neighborhood on Lockwood Drive near Cavalcade Street. Police report that multiple armed suspects forced their way into the residence, leading to an exchange of gunfire inside the home.

A Deadly Exchange of Gunfire

According to investigators, the victim was inside her home when the suspects broke in. At some point during the intrusion, a shootout erupted. The woman was struck by gunfire. Emergency medical services arrived shortly after the shooting was reported, but the victim died from her injuries.

It remains unclear who initiated the exchange of gunfire or if the victim herself was armed. Homicide detectives are currently canvassing the area, looking for security camera footage and speaking with neighbors to identify the suspects, who fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Neighbors Mourn and Express Fear

The tragic death of the elderly resident has deeply shocked neighbors on Lockwood Drive. Residents described the victim as a quiet and kind member of the community who had lived in the neighborhood for many years.

"It's terrifying to know that someone can be attacked and killed in their own home, especially someone of her age," a neighbor shared. HPD has urged anyone with information to contact the Homicide Division or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers.
