IMPD Deploys Drone to Apprehend Suspect in $26,000 Disc Replay Burglary

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) successfully utilized drone technology to locate and apprehend a suspect who allegedly burglarized a local Disc Replay store, escaping with more than $26,000 worth of high-value electronics.

The break-in occurred during the early hours of the morning, triggering alarms at the retail location. Officers arriving at the scene discovered that the store had been breached and a significant quantity of gaming systems, laptops, and other electronics had been taken. Rather than relying solely on traditional ground searches, responding units deployed an IMPD aerial drone to scan the surrounding area for the fleeing suspect.

Thanks to the thermal imaging and high-definition video capabilities of the drone, operators quickly spotted a suspect hiding in nearby brush. Ground officers were guided directly to the suspect's location, leading to an arrest without further incident. The stolen merchandise was subsequently recovered and returned to the store owner. IMPD officials highlighted the operation as a prime example of how modern technology is enhancing public safety and improving response efficiency in property crime investigations.
