East Indianapolis Homeowner Fatally Shoots Armed Intruder with Suspect's Own Gun

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A home invasion on Indianapolis's east side ended in gunfire early Wednesday morning after a resident fought back against an armed intruder. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the incident occurred on January 3, 2024, when a homeowner was confronted by a suspect who had forced entry into the residence.

Police reports indicate that a physical confrontation ensued between the homeowner and the intruder. During the life-or-death struggle, the homeowner managed to disarm the suspect, seizing the intruder's own firearm. The homeowner then fired at the suspect, fatally wounding him. Emergency medical services arrived shortly after the incident was reported, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators are treating the shooting as a case of self-defense. The homeowner, who sustained minor injuries during the struggle, has been cooperating fully with detectives.
