Deadly Shooting Follows East Side Indianapolis Home Invasion

INDIANAPOLIS — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred during a home invasion on the east side of Indianapolis early Tuesday morning, leaving one person deceased.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were dispatched to a home in the block of East 30th Street after receiving emergency calls reporting shots fired and an active home invasion. When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered an adult male suffering from critical gunshot wounds. Despite emergency lifesaving measures performed by first responders, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives were immediately called to lead the investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that one or more armed individuals forced their way into the residence, leading to an altercation that culminated in gunfire. It is currently unclear whether the deceased was a resident of the home or one of the intruders, as police continue to interview witnesses and gather forensic evidence from the scene.
