Brazen Pokémon Card Theft Caught on Camera at OldSchool Outpost in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — A local tabletop gaming store became the scene of a frustrating theft after a customer was caught on high-definition security cameras swiping a stack of collectible Pokémon cards directly from behind the counter.

The incident occurred on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at OldSchool Outpost, a popular community hobby shop located near the intersection of Emerson Avenue and Thompson Road in southeast Indianapolis. According to co-owner Steven Willoughby, the suspect is believed to be a frequent patron of the establishment, making the act of theft feel like a direct betrayal of the store's community spirit.

Surveillance footage captured the suspect browsing the shop before finding a moment when employees were occupied assisting other customers. Seizing the opportunity, the individual reached over the counter area to steal approximately $100 to $120 worth of individual Pokémon cards that had been set aside for inventory processing.

“The nerve of this guy to come into our shop, where we try to build a friendly, welcoming environment, and steal right from under our noses is just incredibly disappointing,” Willoughby said. While the monetary value of the stolen cards was relatively modest compared to other high-profile TCG thefts, the store owners decided to release the surveillance footage publicly in hopes that community members would help identify the suspect.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department was notified of the theft and is currently reviewing the clear video evidence. Shop owners across the city have been warned to keep a close eye on their collectible showcases, as the market for rare and graded Pokémon cards remains a frequent target for retail thieves.
